Global Disaster Hotspots: Who’s At Risk?
Global volatility has intensified in recent decades, with disasters related to political conflict, economic instability, and environmental degradation occurring more frequently and with greater severity. Nigeria stands out in Africa as the country most affected by disaster events, facing recurring floods, displacement, and loss of life. This visualization project analyzes six decades of global and national disaster data to uncover patterns in frequency, impact, and regional vulnerability. By examining trends in natural and technological disasters and highlighting Nigeria’s rising exposure, the project aims to raise public and institutional awareness and emphasize the urgent need for proactive planning. The framing calls on government agencies, communities, and stakeholders to strengthen preparedness, early warning systems, and evidence based disaster management.
