TaxParency: How is Tax Revenue Contributing to Local Development in Ghana?

African governments have been urged to increase their revenues. One of the major concerns is whether the increases in tax collection capacity and revenue translate into meaningful development. Isaac Newton Bortey explores the relative size of revenues to spending priorities. In recent years, a sizable amount of taxes collected is used to service existing debts through interest payments. At a regional level, revenues often fall below the necessary amount to drive development.
