Marie Allegret

I am an expert in elections, democracy, and gender sensitive governance, driven by a commitment to advancing women’s agency through evidence based advocacy and meaningful policy reform. With more than 20 years of experience working in crisis and post conflict environments, I have contributed to field missions and political analysis for international institutions, including the European Union, U.S. based NGOs, and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. My work focuses on electoral security, political violence, and the ways gender shapes both risks and opportunities within democratic processes.

I am the founder of Data4Women, an initiative dedicated to closing gender data gaps, strengthening women’s political participation, and supporting women led organisations with innovative grassroots data collection tools. My professional background also includes work as a trainer in gender based violence and as a lecturer in geopolitics, which has deepened my understanding of power, representation, and the cultural factors that shape how data is interpreted.

I hold degrees from the London School of Economics and Sorbonne University. I am passionate about using data to tell stories that resonate with policymakers and communities and I am increasingly interested in how cultural perspectives influence the reception of data visualisations. Through the Leaders of Africa Institute, I look forward to refining my technical skills and collaborating with peers who share a commitment to inclusive governance and democratic resilience.
